In underscoring the State Government’s commitment to ensuring that every resident has access to quality healthcare services without experiencing financial hazards of expensive healthcare, the Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC), today, continued the flag-off ceremony of Tertiary Institutions Social Health Insurance Program (TISHIP) at the University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, Nigeria.
The initiative, which is in recognition of the pivotal role tertiary institutions play in shaping the future of our society, was last week flagged off at the Dennis Osadebey University (DOU), Asaba.
Addressing audience at the ceremony, the Director General (D-G)/ Chief Executive Officer of DSCHC, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, noted that the introduction of TISHIP holds immense benefits for the students of UNIDEL. Adding that “with this program, students will have access to comprehensive healthcare services both within and outside the school Premises. Whether seeking medical care during school hours or while on break, students can rest assured knowing that their needs will be adequately addressed”.
Akpoveta, who disclosed that the TISHIP extends it’s coverage beyond the borders of Delta State, ensuring that students can access quality healthcare wherever they may be, reiterated the commission’s commitment to ensuring that healthcare remains accessible and affordable for all residents of Delta State.
According to him “since inception, the DSCHC has made remarkable progress in fulfilling it’s mandate. We have implemented various programs aimed at healthcare access and quality across the State. These programs include the Equity Health Plan; Formal Health Plan and the Informal Health; in addition we are implementing the Access to Financial Initiative for the hard to reach areas of the State; indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative (IEAI), the Artisans Enrollees and of course, the TISHIP which we are flagging off today. Through these initiatives, we have been able to significantly increase healthcare coverage and improve health outcomes for our people “.
While disclosing the State Government’s plan to upgrade healthcare facilities in the State tertiary institutions, Dr. Akpoveta expressed appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his tremendous support to the Commission. He also thanked the Commissioners for Health and Higher Education, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme and Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, for their unwavering dedication and leadership in driving the implementation of TISHIP as well as quality healthcare services for all in the State.
The D-G thanked the Vice Chancellor and Management Team of University of Delta, Agbor for their resolute support and commitment to the TISHIP program. That their collaboration with the DSCHC would play a pivotal role in advancing the State Government’s MORE AGENDA, particularly in safeguarding the welfare of students. That through their partnership in implementing TISHIP, they have exhibited a profound dedication to ensuring that students have access to superior healthcare services without financial hazards.
Earlier in her remarks, the Vice Chancellor of UNIDEL, Prof. Stella Chiemeke told the students not be deterred with the payment of the N7,000 premium that once a student pays fee he or she is qualified for the scheme that fees encompasses some healthcare charge.
While thanking the State Government for the initiative of TISHIP, that it would be of immense benefits for Enrollees, Prof. Chiemeke urged the students to enroll for the scheme so as to benefit from it.
The highlight of the program includes presentation of DSCHC identity card to enrolled students at the ceremony venue.
