Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has stated that the former Military Administrator of Benue and later Kano States, Brig. – Gen. Dominic Oneya (rtd) and former member of the State’s House of Assembly, the late Unuevworo R’ Ugboroko Community in Uvwie, Hon. Dennis Omovie left unannounced and it’s touching they left that way.
Okowa stated this today when he visited the families of the two deceased on condolences in Warri.
Okowa, who was represented by the State Deputy Governor, Dcn. Kingsley Otuaro, gave Glory to God for the impactful lives the former President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and former Delta State Lawmaker lived while alive.
Consoling Mr. Anthony and Mrs. Patricia Oneya ( Son and wife of Gen. Dominic Oneya), Okowa said “I am here to condole with you on the passing of our beloved brother, leader and daddy. He lived a fulfilled life. We will just take solace in the fact that he lived an exemplary life. Daddy was a disciplinarian. Please be strong”. He consoled.
He noted that the departed Oneya though a soldier, distinguished himself as an administrator, excelling as Military Administrator of Kano and Benue States between 1996 and 1999, and later at NFF.
According to the Governor, the deceased was a thoroughbred military officer and administrator, and contributed immensely to the development of the States he served as military administrator and in sports, especially football.
He said though, Dennis Omovie lived a successful life, his sudden passing away was painful because he’s young even though he impacted lives in Warri, Delta State and Nigeria at large.

While praying God to grant fortitude to those who mourn their demises and grant the two deceased’ souls eternal rest, guide the families on the wisdoms to fill the vacuums they left behind, Gov Okowa said the State Government wished to be informed of all plans being put in place for the internment because they were integral parts of the Government.
Oneya, who hails from Agbarho in Ughelli North Local Government Area, reportedly died on Thursday at his Effurun GRA residence in Uvwie Local Government Area. He was 73.
Omovie, who is the Unuevworo (Traditional Prime Minister of Ugboroke), reportedly died on Wednesday, 11 August, 2021, at a hospital in Warri, after a brief illness.
Until his death, the four-time member of the Parliament was the Director-General, Delta State Public and Private Properties Protection Agency.
