The appointment of the first female Registrar of Delta State University, Abraka, Mrs. Rufina Ufuoma Ufiofio, has added value to the leadership role of women in positions of authority in Delta State.
The Chairman, Governing Council of Delta State University, Abraka, Prof. Sam Oyovwaire, stated this during a thanksgiving mass/reception ceremony in honour of the appointment of the celebrator, held at St. Paul’s Catholic Chaplaincy, DELSU, Abraka, yesterday.
Prof. Oyovwaire noted that the appointment of the new Registrar was an epitome of excellence, saying the university authority acknowledged excellence by chosen the best among the best contestants for the position of the Registrar of the University.
While expressing happiness over Mrs. Ufiofio’s strict religious strive, Prof. Oyovwaire, said her appointment was symbolic and remarkable, which requires the university community and the feminine gender to be proud of her.
According to him, Mrs. Ufiofio symbolises quite a lot of things, saying as somebody who passes through the system, she would not disappoint her husband, parents and the university authority.
The Vice Chancellor of Delta State University, Abraka, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga, who graced the thanksgiving mass/reception ceremony alongside other erudite Professors and scholars from within and outside the university community, described the new Registrar as a dependable ally and seasoned university administrator whose experience would add value to the institution.
The celebrator, Mrs. Rufina Ufiofio, who is the wife of the Project Coordinator of the World Bank-assisted Delta State Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP), Mr. Isaac Ufiofio, appreciated God and everybody that stood by her to make the appointment a fulfilment.
Delivering his homily, Rev. Fr. (Dr.) James Urien of St. Paul’s Catholic Chaplaincy, DELSU, Abraka, called on the congregations to rely on God as source of man’s strength, saying the precious gift bequeathed on Mrs. Ufiofio worth thanksgiving to God.
Fr. Urien, said the appointment of the celebrator as the first female Registrar of Delta State University, Abraka, has open doors for the girl child, saying “a lot is giving to her and a lot is expected from her to justify the confidence reposed in her”.
While calling on the new Registrar to do her work effectively and efficiently, Fr. Urien, advised her to be calm, humble and loyal to the system, even as he prayed God to enable her succeed in her new assignment.
Prominent Deltans present at the occasion include the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare; former Commissioner, Higher Education, Engr. Jude Sinebe, Delta State Head of Service, Sir. Reginald Bayoko, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Higher Education, Sir Anthony Nwokolobia and former Delta State Head of Service, Sir Paul Evuarhere.
Others are the Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Labour & SERVICOM, Comrade Mike Okeme, former Sole Administrator of DELSU, Prof. Abednigo Ekoko; former Vice Chancellor of DELSU and wife, Prof. & Mrs. Eric Arubayi and former Vice Chancellor of Western Delta University and husband, Prof. & Prof. (Mrs.) Omamuromu Otete Okobia.
