The Executive Chairman of the Delta State Waste Management Board (DSWMB), Hon. Matthew Mofe Edema, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to keeping the state clean through strategic collaborations. Leading a delegation to the Delta State Police Command Headquarters in Asaba, Hon. Edema sought the support of the police in enforcing waste management regulations across the state.
Accompanied by Hon. Cosmas Igbinije, the member representing Delta North in the Waste Management Board, and senior management staff, the team emphasized the need for stringent enforcement measures to curb illegal dumping and other environmental offenses.
Hon. Edema explained that the courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, was pivotal to achieving the Board’s vision of a cleaner Delta State. “We are here to seek your collaboration in enforcing arrests of individuals and businesses violating refuse disposal regulations. This partnership is crucial to maintaining environmental cleanliness and public health,” he stated.
In response, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda expressed his readiness to support the Board’s efforts. He acknowledged the importance of a clean environment and assured the Waste Management Board of the Nigeria Police Force’s cooperation in enforcing compliance with waste management laws.
This alliance marks a significant step in tackling environmental challenges in Delta State, as the synergy between the DSWMB and the police is expected to enhance the Board’s capacity to address waste disposal issues effectively.
The collaboration underscores the importance of collective responsibility in achieving sustainable development goals and maintaining a cleaner, healthier environment for all residents of Delta State.
