Executive Assistant on Communications to Delta State Governor and Head of Delta State Orientation Bureau, DSOB, Dr Latimore Oghenesivbe, has said that governor Sheriff Oborevwori, will continue to development all sectors of the state economy, and consistently give priority attention to Students health care through the newly inaugurated Tertiary Institutions Students Insurance Programme, TISIP.
He gave the assurance while speaking as special guest at both Delta Broadcasting Service radio Warri and Quest Radio/Television Ughelli on Monday, saying the state government through the Delta State Social Insurance Commission, is already reaching out to other state governments to perfect arrangements, so that students of Delta State Origin can have access to free medical care across the country, under the scheme which was inaugurated recently at Dennis Osadebey University Anwai Asaba.
Oghenesivbe noted that Delta is the first to pioneer such gigantic student health programme by any state government with national spread, while commending the state governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, for his visionary leadership, prompt payments of student Bursary and improved students welfare, saying that the MORE agenda adequately captured students and teeming youths as major beneficiaries.
On the issue of the relocation of Faculty of Management Sciences of Delta State University of Science and Technology Ozoro to the Orerokpe campus, the EA Communications said establishment of University campuses is squarely the responsibility of the institution’s governing council as governor Oborevwori does not in any way interfere with the day to day administration of any school in the state.
He assured that the newly established Orerokpe campus of DSUST Ozoro, will not in any way slow the the rapid development of the main campus of the University, adding that three additional Faculties were recently added to the Ozoro main campus namely; Faculties of Pharmacy, General Medical Sciences and Health Sciences, pointing out that the Orerokpe Campus was well planned by the governing council of DSUST, and admission shall be open to all eligible and quantified admission seekers devoid of ethnic, tribal or religious sentiments.
Oghenesivbe said the recent riot in Ozoro as a result of the relocation of the Faculty of Management Sciences was the handiwork of some former members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who defected to the major opposition party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, during the 2023 governorship election, adding that Delta remained a peaceful state, which is why governor Sheriff Oborevwori will continue to protect the robust peaceful coexistence of all ethnic nationalities, and to spread development to the three senatorial districts, including Ozoro and other communities across the state.
“The newly introduced Tertiary Institutions Students Insurance Programme under the State Social Insurance Commission is meant to cater for students of Delta State origin in tertiary institutions in the state and across the country. Efforts are being made by the Dr Isaac Akpoveta’s led Commission to ensure that state governments across the country accepts the schedule for effective and efficient implementation.
“By this awesome development, governor Oborevwori has yet again scored another first, because Delta is the only State in Nigeria that has embarked on a comprehensive student health social insurance programme that would capture all our students in different institutions across Nigeria.
“As for the relocation of Faculty of Management Sciences of Delta State University of Science and Technology Ozoro to Orerokpe campus, it’s a done deal. It ought not to attract any protest in the first place, because creation of campus is for the growth of any University, and it will continue to happen for the spread of education infrastructure development in the state.
“The protest was politically motivated and the organisers owe the good people of Delta State an apology, for breaching public peace in Ozoro. Delta State is peaceful and the peaceful coexistence among ethnic nationalities in the state shall be sustained and protected by the State Government.
“Three additional Faculties were recently added to Delta State University of Science and Technology Ozoro, namely; Faculties of Pharmacy, General Medical Sciences and Health Sciences. These faculties would further increase the number of students in the University. The governor is neutral in this matter, because it falls within the assigned responsibilities of the Vice Chancellor and the Governing Council.
“The Orerokpe campus is a welcome development and have been applauded by prominent Deltans and those who truly mean well for our dear state.
The Oborevwori administration shall continue to develop our tertiary institutions across the three senstorial districts in line with his MORE agenda,” Oghenesivbe assured.
