Hon. Edema made this remark on Friday, February 7, 2025, during a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government, Hon. Emma Bazim Chinye, at the council’s administrative headquarters in Issele-Uku. He acknowledged the well-maintained environment, noting that from the entrance of Issele-Uku to the council premises and the Executive Council Chamber, there was a clear demonstration of Hon. Chinye’s commitment to environmental sanitation.
“We are not surprised because we know you have the capacity and the ability to sustain cleanliness in this Local Government Area. Indeed, what we experience here is refreshing,” Hon. Edema stated.
He further reiterated the Board’s support for effective and proactive Private Sector Participation (PSP) in waste management. He called on the Council Chairman to spearhead the involvement of PSP in waste management within Aniocha North, given his extensive experience in the sector.
Responding, Hon. Chinye reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to environmental cleanliness, assuring that waste management remains a top priority in his vision to rebuild Aniocha North. He expressed his readiness to collaborate with the Waste Management Board, emphasizing that his administration would take all necessary steps to sustain a productive relationship with the Board for the benefit of the people.
“With the visit of the Board, we are set to kickstart our plans to integrate the private sector in waste management, and with the collaborative efforts of the State Waste Management Board, we will surely get it right,” Hon. Chinye said.
The Council Chairman commended Hon. Edema and his team for their relentless efforts in tackling indiscriminate waste disposal and eliminating illegal dumpsites, which he identified as major challenges to achieving a clean and healthy environment.
Hon. Chinye, who previously served two terms as the Chairman of the Delta State Waste Management Board, appreciated Hon. Edema and his team for maintaining the high standards he had set during his tenure. He assured them of the local government’s full support in achieving their mandate.
The visit further strengthened the partnership between the Delta State Waste Management Board and the Aniocha North Local Government, with both parties expressing their commitment to ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment for residents.
