The Director General of the Delta State Sports Commission, Mr. Festus Ohwojero has bagged Secretaries of Sports Association (SOSA) Special Award of Excellence, for his creditable influence in Sports development in the State.
The Sports Secretaries is the arm of the Sports Commission that caters for the welfare of the athletes and officials.
The award was presented by the Chairman of the Association, Mr.Emmanuel Siantebe to Mr. Festus Ohwojero, when the group paid a solidarity visit to his office on Friday, 1st November, 2024 in Asaba.
It was witnessed by stakeholders in the State’s Sports Commission, leaders and members of SOSA that were full of praises and appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the Director General’s performance since his appointment, emphasizing on his excellent performance during major sports competitions, such as the 2024 National Youth Games.
Alluding and reeling out justifiable reasons for the Award, Mr. Emmanuel Siantebe noted that Mr. Festus Ohwojero earned the meritorious Award on account of his meritorious services for his creditable influence in the growth and development of The Sport’s Commission since he was appointed by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
“This became manifest when Ohwojero was in the fore front to lead the processes leading to gradual and strategic successes recorded in the last National Youth Games. It is a testimony of hard work combined with team spirit”. He noted.
SOSA presented the Director General with a plaque inscribed “Special Award Of Excellence to our amiable Director General FESTUS OHWOJERO for your creditable influence in Sports Developments”, as a symbol of their recognition for his exceptional leadership style of not marginalizing anyone but inclusion of all capable hands, innovation, and unwavering dedication to sports excellence.
Presenting the award, the Chairman of the Association, Emmanuel Siantebe, stated that “the Director General’s style of leadership is unparalleled so this Award is a token of appreciation from the Association to him”.
In his response, the DG, who thanked the body for the award which he says, will spur him and his team to work harder, said the award was not just a personal honour for him alone, but a testament of the tireless effort of the team, led by the Management of the Commission. Adding that the Award and show of solidarity with him will not only spur him to do more to take sports to higher levels during his tenure, but to reflect and re-strategize on how to grow the Commission better than how he met her.
Thanking Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, whom he disclosed made his Job easy by his prompt approvals and quick release of funds for sporting activities in the State, especially the just concluded hosting of the the 8th National Youth Games in the Asaba Township Stadium, Ohwojero said “For me, the governor’s actions are a clear demonstration of his genuine love for sports in Delta State which is inline with his M.O.R.E agenda he promised Deltans.
“If not for His Excellency, I don’t think the management would have been able to achieve this feat.” Ohwojero added.
The DG pledged to look into the issues raised by the Association that by God’s grace Management will attend to them appropriately.
