Asaba, Delta State – The Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) concluded its 2024 Convention and Lecture Series with a communique emphasizing actionable strategies to address security challenges. Themed “Security Challenges: Finding Implementable Local Solutions,” the event, held in Asaba, brought together experts, stakeholders, and government officials to explore innovative approaches to fostering community safety.
Keynote speaker ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Police Force, alongside a distinguished panel of security and social experts, provided thought-provoking insights on the theme. Esteemed panelists included Amb. Edewor Egedegbe, Bridget Dominion Foh Affiah, Odita Sunday-Udemaguna, and Prof. Emmanus Odikaeseme, representing a cross-section of sectors committed to tackling insecurity.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, Commissioner for Information, graced the event as Special Guest of Honour, while other notable attendees included representatives from the Delta State House of Assembly, the Nigerian Police Force, DSS, NSCDC, FRSC, and various media and professional organizations.
The communique outlined critical resolutions, including:
Recognizing security as a collective responsibility beyond government efforts.
Empowering traditional rulers and communities to develop grassroots security solutions.
Advocating for moral rejuvenation by discouraging the celebration of questionable wealth and criminalizing result forgery.
Supporting community policing and integrating security education into school curricula.
The forum reiterated the need for fairness, equity, and justice in governance, urging all stakeholders to collaborate in creating a secure and morally sound society. The DOPF remains steadfast in driving transformative conversations and fostering accountability for societal growth.
