It was jubilation galore at Jesse in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State yesterday when the Idjerhe Clan elected a new President-General (P-G) to lead Idjerhe Clan Development Union (ICDU) for the next four years.
The people of Idjerhe Clan openly celebrated the emergence of Eld. Edomidaghan Lucky, a retired School Principal with years of experiences in leadership after he won in a keenly contested election which took place on Saturday, 19 November, 2022 at the ICDU Town Hall, Jesse Town.
Fifty four delegates from the ICDU and Jesse Elites Forum across the country formed the electoral college and were cleared to participate in the town union election under the supervision of officials from the Palace of the Ovie.
The election which was conducted in a peaceful atmosphere by the Electoral Committee chaired by High Chief Johnson Okogoro, set up by the Clan for that purpose saw Edomidaghan as the new President-General with 29 votes while Chief Emmanuel Umukoro got 24 votes.
Thus, Edomidaghan Lucky was declared winner of the position of President-General by the Electoral Committee.
Others who were elected as members of the national executive committee of the community were Mr. Agbakoko, Vice President-General, Mr. Solomon Ogbebor, Secretary-General, Richard Iweta as Treasurer.
The election which was witnessed and participated by the Jesse elders, traditional chiefs, women and youths, both at home and in diaspora was adjudged free and fair election by all participants.
The newly elected President General of Jesse Clan and his team will be waiting for the official swearing-in by the traditional ruler of Idjerhe Clan, HRM King Monday Obukowho Whiskey, The Ovie Of Idjerhe.
In his vote of thanks immediately after his declaration, the newly elected President General of Idjerhe Clan, Mr. Edomidaghan Lucky thanked all ICDU elders, traditional chiefs, women, youths and all the delegates that found him worthy to lead ICDU as P-G.
While saying that one of the main areas of focus with his executive would be geared towards uniting the sons and daughters of Idjerhe, Edomidaghan assured them that it is a new dawn in ICDU, adding that development of various dimensions would commence in earnest.
He promised that his administration would ensure improved security and infrastructural development of the town and solicited the support of everyone in the task of building a new ICDU with the promise of a transparent administration.
In his comment, the Chairman of Jesse Elites Forum in Asaba, Builder Godwin Oghenedoro congratulated the PG-elect and his executive council. He expressed the hope that Idjerhe Clan Development Union would experience better days ahead under the new dispensation.
Also commenting, Chief Simone Okoro said “It was not just victory but a land slide victory showing that he was overwhelmingly acceptable by Idjerhe people. He is the one that the cap fits. l congratulate you once again along with Iweta Richard and Agbakoko also for their overwhelming victory for the positions of Treasurer and Vice President respectively.I also appreciate the electoral body chaired by High Chief Okogoro for their excellent job. A dawn of a new era come upon ICDU.. .a dawn of reawakening. IJN Amen”.
