The Delta State Government has reiterated its call for citizens to support the Federal Government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasizing that such backing transcends politics and promotes inclusive governance.
This position was articulated by Mr. Charles Aniagwu, Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads and Public Information), during his maiden press briefing on Monday, January 13, 2025, in Asaba. Aniagwu stressed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration remains focused on governance, development, and unity.
“I recall that during the UPU celebration at Uvwiamuge-Agbarho in Ughelli North, the Governor urged Deltans to support President Tinubu. He made it clear that supporting Tinubu equates to supporting Delta State’s progress, emphasizing that this is about governance, not politics,” Aniagwu said.
The commissioner further dismissed speculations about Governor Oborevwori leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). “Governor Oborevwori is a proud PDP leader and remains committed to the party. He has no intention of leaving the PDP, and his focus is solely on delivering democratic dividends to Deltans,” he asserted.
Aniagwu outlined the administration’s commitment to completing inherited projects while initiating new ones to advance development across the state. Key completed and ongoing projects include the Okpanam-Ibusa Bypass, the Beneku Bridge, the Asaba-Ughelli Dual Carriageway, and the six-story High Court Complex in Asaba.
He also highlighted major projects in Warri and Effurun, where Julius Berger is constructing three flyover bridges and expanding roads, transforming the skyline of Delta South. Other completed and ongoing road projects include those in Isoko North, Isoko South, Sapele, Okpe, and Ndokwa West, among others.
On infrastructure, Aniagwu said, “Governor Oborevwori is committed to building bridges of possibilities, connecting communities, and fostering social and business interactions across local government areas.”
In the education sector, the administration has established a campus of the Southern Delta State University in Orerokpe and introduced a College of Health Sciences at the main campus in Ozoro. Over 150 primary healthcare centers have been upgraded, alongside significant investments in general hospitals and colleges of nursing.
In housing, the government has begun constructing 50 housing units across Ozoro, Kwale, and Owa-Oyibu, with additional duplexes for commissioners. Aniagwu also highlighted efforts to diversify the state’s economy, citing a partnership with UTM LNG to harness Delta’s vast natural gas reserves.
On financial discipline, Aniagwu revealed that over ₦200 billion has been used to reduce the state’s debt stock, with contractors mobilized for new and ongoing projects. “The Governor is committed to fiscal responsibility, ensuring timely payments and efficient resource allocation,” he said.
Aniagwu concluded by noting plans to revamp the state’s broadcasting outfits in Asaba and Warri, with a report on the proposed upgrades expected within three weeks.
“Governor Oborevwori’s business is governance, and he is determined to deliver on his mandate to improve the lives of every Deltan,” Aniagwu added.
