Delta State Government has pledge total support to the Excravos and its Environs Power project of the federal government following its numerous benefits to oil bearing communities in the State.
The State Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro made the pledge yesterday in his office, Asaba at a meeting held with stakeholders in the project including representatives of the Nigeria Gas Company, host communities and Income Electric Ltd.
Barr. Otuaro said the meeting was basically an avenue to brainstorm on ways to kick off with the project as well as fashion out ways to overcome perceived challenges.
He said the State government, host communities and Deltans are hopeful that the project on completion will light up oil bearing firms, revive industrialization, create jobs and turn the economy of the State around because of its multiplier effects.
Barr. Otuaro assured the contracting firm that government would ensure that a conducive environment is created for the peaceful execution and completion of the landmark project.
The Commissioner for Power and Energy, Rt.Hon. Basil Ganagana and his counterpart from Oil and Gas, Prince Emmanuel Agbamduba, described the project as a dream come true for the people of Escravos and its environ. They appealed to the contracting firm to carry out thorough survey to enable them execute the job in line with contractual agreement.
The representatives of Ijaw and Itsekiri commmunties, Dr. Paul Bebenimibo and Mr. Samuel Eyengho respectively, at the meeting pledged their support to the federal government and the contractors.
They said, the project was long overdue and appealed to the federal government to ensure that it is completed and put to maximum use.
The leader of the delegates from Income Electric, the firm incharge of the electricity project, Mr. Matthew Edevbie said the firm is out to execute the job according to specification.
All stakeholders at the meeting pledged to work as a team for the speedy execution of the project.
