The recent defection of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), has sparked significant discourse across the state. In response, the Delta State Civil Society Actors Community (DSCSAC) has called for continuity, inclusive governance, and a renewed focus on development.
In a press statement issued today, the DSCSAC acknowledged the Governor’s constitutional right to switch political allegiance but stressed that the move must not derail existing development efforts, especially the Governor’s flagship MORE Agenda.

“This is a moment that demands wisdom, maturity, and a clear focus on the people,” the statement read. “Political realignment should not truncate existing partnerships or derail priorities aimed at improving the lives of Deltans.”
The civil society group expressed confidence following consultations with Civicist Rex Emojitte Anighoro, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Civic Engagement and Civil Society, who assured stakeholders that the defection was made in the broader interest of the people of Delta State.
While reiterating its non-partisan stance, DSCSAC called on Governor Oborevwori to ensure continuity in governance and policies that promote the common good. The organization also urged international development partners, private sector actors, and other stakeholders not to disengage but to deepen collaboration with the state.

“We reaffirm our commitment to good governance, transparency, accountability, and sustained development,” the statement continued. “This is not the time to retreat but to recommit. Let this shift bring greater collaboration, not disruption.”
Furthermore, the civil society coalition pledged to continue championing citizen engagement and upholding the values of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), ensuring that the voices of the marginalized remain central in policymaking.
Signed by DSCSAC President Comrade (Olorogun) Venture Ewerhamrhe, Secretary Activist Egbe Ambrose, and BOT Secretary Dcn. Okezi Odugala, the statement concluded with a strong message:
“Let us remember: sustainable development transcends politics. Together, through resilient partnerships, we can build a Delta State where prosperity, equity, and peace reign.”
