Delta Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (D-CARES) program of the Livelihood Support Unit has presented grants to 4707 beneficiaries across the State to boost their trade.
The State CARES Coordinator and Secretary of the State CARES Steering Committee, Lady Dr. Patience Ogbewe said the world Bank intervention program in collaboration with Federal Government is realistic and evidence based.
Dr. Ogbewe who is representing the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Chairman of the State CARES Steering Committee, Mr. Sonny Ekedayen revealed the program is directly targeted at the poor and vulberable petty traders who need small support to boost their business.
She disclosed that over 50,000 beneficiaries had directly benefitted from the CARES intervention across the State and another 20,000 beneficiaries are already been prepared to benefit before the World Bank Independent Verification Agents (IVA) will come.
The Commissioner for Youth Development, Comrade Isaac Weyimi Agbateromi thanked the Governor of Delta State for prompt released of funds which had enable the program to achieve such milestone also reelout many other success story of the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborewori at the short time in office.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to support the great work of the government so that more benefit would get to everybody.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Princess Pat Ajudua enjoined the beneficiaries to put the funds into good use for the good of themselves and thier community.
The Technical Head of the livelihood Support Unit, Chief Isioma Okonta said they organised a soft training for the beneficiaries to enable them meaningfully utilised the funds and were presented certificate for successfull completion of the program.
Chief Okonta noted that 236 persons benefited in Oshimili South where they carried out the pilot scheme and 4707 will benefit across the State.
As the program was going on, some of the beneficiaries were elated as they get messages from the bank as prove of payment of the grants.
