The army only sends its best generals to the battlefield to coordinate its fighting forces. This is because the efficiency and capability of soldiers are reinforced by a good commander. Deltans have weighed the capacity of every contestant in the race for the state governorship and have picked, Senator Ovie Omo Agege, the Obarisi of Urhobo Land, and Deputy Senate President, as their favourite. The chick that will grow to be a cock is identified from the little growth that sprouts on its head. The trajectory of Ovie Omo Agege from a little beginning, as executive assistant, to the then, Gov. James Ibori, and now in the commanding height of number two, in the Nigerian Parliament, cut him out as a man destined for leadership. He has ever remained undaunted by obstacles, such frustrating impediments placed on his path, had made him jettison the PDP as engine of growth and ascension.
When I write and post, I follow the comments to get feedbacks from readers. Many, through their comments, inbox messages and phone calls, are in solidarity with the Obarisi of Urhobo Land. The few who are insultive and opposed to him, are often semi illiterate, who barely expresses themselves. Omo Agege achievements in the few years he has been Deputy Senate President, can’t be counted off with the fingers, they are a handful and very substantial. He will replicate his grand vision for the entire Delta, when he becomes governor. My first encounter with the Obarisi was in 2014, at his home in Asokoro, Abuja, and it has remained etched in my mind ever since. A long time family friend, Prince Ejiro Erenede of Ughelli, who had paid a courtesy visit on, Pa Edwin Kiagbodo Clark CON, had asked me to accompany him to see the now DSP. I was touched by his simplicity, humility and reception.
What I took away from that encounter of over 8 years, was his openness and mental power. But little did I envisage he would one day become Deputy Senate President, and l don’t want to go into the several elements that makes him different from other men. Today, he has gotten approval for a campus of the Nigerian Law School, Federal Polytechnic and other jaw dropping projects for Delta. His critics say he took all to Orogun. Is Orogun outside Delta State? Maybe only his children and Orogun people will attend both institutions. The same people have hailed Ifeanyi Okowa for using our 13% derivation money meant for the development of oil producing communities, to build a new university in his Owa Alero village. When Omo Agege becomes governor on the 29th May 2023, Deltans will witness the sporadic development they have so yearned for. He is above clanish sentiments, very detribalized and a true man of the people.
The Russian great writer, who suffered long years of incarceration in Josef Stalin Gulags, said that to taste the sea, all that is required is a little gulp. Senator Ovie Omo Agege has shown what he can do with little resources. Deltans will have it so good. No one holds a lamp in daylight to look for what he can see. A women who suffers domestic abuse is always hesitant and doubtful of life outside the confines of the home where she is being abused. Until Deltans switched from voting PDP they won’t know of the good life outside the harrowing existence brought upon them by the evil umbrella. God gave Noah the rainbow sign, no more water, the fire next time. The people of Delta State won’t be fooled again by the lies and deceit of the PDP and Okowa, both have shot themselves in the foot.
