Ahead of the 2023 gubernatorial election in Delta State, a political pressure group, Delta Great Movement, (DGM) has decided to support the immediate past Commissioner for Works, Chief James Augoye to enable him win the Delta State governorship seat.
The group made this known during its inaugural meeting held on Tuesday at the Wetland Hotel, Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
In his address during the meeting, the State Coordinator of DGM, Chief Mathew Kwode, expressed gratitude to all for the massive attendance.
Kwode, who spoke on the theme “unveiling Project Augoye 2023”, noted that, the group was formed to have a capable, efficient, resourceful and pragmatic leader that will pilot the affairs of the state and consolidate on the successes recorded by the Okowa’s administration.
He noted that the event marked a milestone in their political journey towards 2023, as it was towards an urgent and a clarion call to service on the immediate past Delta Commissioner for Works, Chief James Augoye to run for the governorship position come 2023.
According to him, “DGM and indeed Deltans have great confidence in the person of Chief James Augoye having carefully examined his programs, leadership style, administrative capacity and among other qualities.
“This movement was a burning desire to consolidate on the gains of the existing simple agreement between the three senatorial districts in Delta State, as it has become a catalyst for the growth of our party PDP.
“it was this deisre that led to the house to house sensitization of the political leaders in the state, in order to maintain the existing political equation which has entrenched unity, developemnt, progress and peaceful co- existence in the state from 1999 till date”.
The group appealed to Deltans that the governorship seat should rotate to Delta Central, having gone around the three Senatorial Districts, with a proviso that in Delta Central, there are three Federal Constituencies, Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Udu FederalConstituency; Ethiope East, Ethiope West Federal Constituency; Okpe, Sapele, Uvwe Federal Constituency; and out of the three, it is only Okpe, Sapele, Uvwe Federal Constituency that is yet to produce a governor since the creation of the state in August 27, 1991.
“So, in the spirit of equity, fairness and justice, DGM appeal to other LGAs in Delta Central to allow Okpe to produce the next governor of the state”, he added.
To affirm the reason why the group was formed, the decision, as read by the Coordinator was affirmed by the 25 LGAs representatives present in the meeting that Chief James Augoye should run for the governorship position of the State come 2023 as he stands taller in terms of his political credentials.
