38 Years Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Nigeria trained Lawyer, Michael Numa, (first DELSU Alumni Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and the youngest SAN in Nigeria), Hon. Charles Emetulu (Member of Delta State House of Assembly), Prof. Ochuko Anomohanran (Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic of DELSU), Prof. Mary Agbogidi (first DELSU Alumni Professor), and Sir Edwin Ogidi Gbegbaje, (quintessential Permanent Secretary), were invested with Special Awards for their services of distinction to Delta State, Nigeria and Humanity by the school authority at the DELSU 15TH CONVOCATION ALUMNI AWARDS yesterday in Abraka.
They were honored at the Alumni Association organized Lecture and Awards ceremony for deserving distinguished Alumni of DELSU ahead of the school’s Convocation and award of Degrees and Diplomas on Saturday, 29th April, 2023.
Michael Numa schooled at the Delta State University were he obtained the Bachelor of Law In 2008, he was called to the Bar as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2010.
The awardees were honored for their outstanding performances, distinguishing themselves in their various areas of serving the State and the country and in recognition of their contributions to the development of DELSU, the State and Nigeria.
The Convocation ceremony began with the Vice-Chancellor’s Press Conference, while other major highlights of activities including the presentation of Alumni Lecture that was delivered by eminent medical practitioner, motivational speaker and entrepreneur, Dr Charles Apoki.
In his lecture entitled “Career Development In A Depressed Economy: Challenges Of Young Nigerian Universities Graduates”, Dr. Apoki underscored the importance of reputation and integrity as the utmost ways of building a career.
He said career involved one’s rising from what one studied to what one has modelled his/her self.
The DELSU 15th Convocation Ceremony Alumni Lecture Guest Speaker challenging graduands to imbibe unblemished characters that the University education gives one the ability to think beyond the classroom.
While condemning internet fraudster, students prostituting and other social vices, Dr. Akpoki noted that “that you are a graduate and you are into yahoo-yahoo or hook-up or any form of prostitution making money from it you do not have a career because you do not have a reputation and a career”.
Other highlights of the occasion were the investiture of Alumni/Awards for outstanding Alumni by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga and special rendition by the department of music.
The Theatre Arts Department of DELSU also presented a Convocation Drama, titled THE SACRIFICE where the appreciative audience enjoyed a great evening in the Theatre!
THE SACRIFICE is a powerful expose on culture, tradition, women, tragedy, pain and kingship.
The DELSU Vice Chancellor commended the students and staff of Theatre Arts Department for the high quality Intellectually stimulating Drama presented as 15th Convocation Ceremony Drama.
