Delta State Deputy Governor Barr. Kingsley Otuaro has urge Chairmen of Local government areas sharing border Post with neigbouring States to ensure that Security operatives within those check points scale up the lockdown enforcement order by the Delta State government.
Barr. Otuaro stated this on Friday, while embarking on an assessment tour round major streets in Warri and its environs as well as State borders at koko, Jesse, in Warri North, and Ethiope West local government and also Patani local government respectively.
Barr. Otuaro while addressing the chairmen of the various local government area, noted that the assessment tour was part of strigent measures to ensure total compliance and to assertian the level of enforcement by security agents as well as Compliance by residents.
The state deputy governor who expressed satisfaction with the level of enforcement and compliance by residents and security operatives urge them to scale up the services of enforcement and advised them to be cautious.
According to him; “On behalf of the Delta State government, i want to thank you and your team for a work well done and also want to say that you need to scale up the services you are rendering, which is very important. You need not to be told that we are confronting a very strange pandemic and we just need to be cautious and we expect that you up all of your services in that direction”.
“This an assessment tour to see for myself the extent of compliance in relation to the Delta State government order given the pandemic we are all facing”.
“I think am relatively satisfied from what am seeing, though there still should be some level of improvement, but in all, it is relatively okay from the explanation you have given thus far. Because you are doing your own temperature checks before allowing those on exemption and those that are legitimate to pass through the border and which is very apt and understandable”.
“I want to urge you to keep it up, scale it up because it is quite important that these entry points are been taken absolute care of”. Barr Otuaro State.
The Patani Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Perez Omoun, while fielding question from the State deputy governor noted that, the local government had to embark on precautionary measures early enough before the lockdown order.
Hon. Omoun said; “As a border town we started ealier before the 1st of April, lockdown. Initially we had issues, but due to constant interaction with security personal and the SSGs of Delta and Bayelsa States, the synergy between security operatives from both States at with the border post, has made the compliance level to be very effective”.
“Though the first four days was very tough and challenging due to complaints from those who want to gain access into the State through this border”. He noted.
The chairman noted that the trucks on queue were those on the exemption list, and they are effectively screened by the security and health officials on ground before they are allowed to pass through.
Also the chairman of Ethiope West Hon. Solomon Golley and his counterpart from Warri North, Amb. Aduge Okorodudu, respectively noted that preliminary screening of those on exemption list was done to ensure that they are qualified and pass the required safety rules before they are alllowed to gain access to the State.
They noted that those who are not on the exemption list and have no legitimate business are not allowed to enter the state through the border post. They also noted that, boats of some persons who tried to gain access to the state through the Jesse river was also impounded.
While in Warri, the Divisional Police officers of Pessu and Ogberikoko police stations, while responding to questions from the state deputy governor said enforcement by men of the police force has been very prossional an civil to the people.
They noted, that only those who falls within the enssential duty category are allowed to go about their daily task, adding that there has been high level of complaince by residents thus far.
