As the effects of the lockdown caused by the global outbreak of the Coronavirus Disease, COVID-19 continue to bite hard, a Non-profit organization, Berrywell Feed The Children Foundation has donated food items worth millions of Naira to the Vulnerable in Delta State to cushion the effect of pandemic
The Palliatives which include, Rice, Beans, Noodles and Garri were distributed to over 20 families held up at various Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps and elderly persons in some communities.
Presenting the items at Okwe, Okpanam and Ibusa communities in Oshimili South and Oshimili North local government areas respectively, the CEO of the Foundation, Mrs Ifeanyi Anastasia Okeze noted that reaching out to the less privilege is a core mandate of its mission.
Represented by Pastor Fred Akor, Head, Counseling Unit at the Foundation, Mrs Okeze emphasized that to keep the hopes of future generations alive and ensure their survival beyond this trying time, providing food for vulnerable homes, showing love and putting smiles on the faces of children is a responsibility which the organization must fulfill.
“This is the 25th day of lockdown in the State and people are really hungry and losing hope. We are presenting this palliatives to help ameliorate the sufferings of the poor masses and needy.
“It is a need we must meet which will encourage them to remain indoors pending when Government will lift the lockdown.”
*The CEO further took out time to laud the passion and commitment of the Hospitality Head at the Foundation, Mrs Mercy Okeze saying, “without her generous, honest and articulate self, Berrywell would not be able to reach these people”.*
The beneficiaries were advised to make judicious use of the food items, maintain good hygiene and comply with health safety directives- social distancing, regular handwashing and use of hand sanitizers as advised by State Government and WHO.
Speaking in appreciation for the goodwill towards them, Mr Stephen Okechukwu of Idumu-Obi quarters in Ibusa community and a father of Six (6) children and Mrs Jacinta Oke, a mother of Eight (8) children who resides at Chukeluba camp in Okpanam, prayed God to reward the efforts of the foundation in reaching out to them in this trying time.
They also encouraged other organizations to emulate the good gesture of Berrywell Feed The Children Foundation who not only donated food items to them but also visited them at their various homes and makeshift tents.
