The headquarters of the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), was a beehive of activities on Thursday as the Board opened bids submitted by contractors for the 2022 UBEC/SUBEB intervention school projects.
Addressing the contractors at the bids opening ceremony, Executive Chairman of the Board, Hon. Sunny Ogwu, assured bidders and other professional bodies who were on ground to observe the process that the board was committed in transparently conducting the award process.
He disclosed that the opening of the bids was in respect of advertized 95 various school projects, under the 2022 UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects.
Ogwu, while affirming that the award process would strictly adhere to laid down procedures as provided for in the relevant procurement law, said that the Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration was committed to its finishing strong agenda.
The SUBEB boss, who explained that the intervention projects was a counterpart fund by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and the Delta State Government, disclosed that not fewer than 95 projects spread across the 25 local government areas of the state were bided for
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Hamid Boboyi said that the Commission was satisfied with the process which he adjudged to be transparent.
The UBEC Executive Secretary who spoke through Mr. Mordi Sunday, an Assistant Director from the department of Procurement, while commending the Delta State Government and the Board for following due process in awarding the jobs, stated that the Commission would continue to observe the procedure to ensure that it confirms with the law.
Earlier, in his welcome remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Board, Sir Byron Unini, said that the ceremony was in fulfilment of the Procurement Act of 2007 which provided that at the end of the biding process, the bid would be opened publicly while the Board proceed with the processing of the bids.
The PS who disclosed that the board had complied with procurement act in the final process of award, assured bidders that the board would be objectively guided.
The ceremony was attended by the Commissioner for Basic and Primary Education, Hon. Sunday Onoriode, who was represented by Mr. Anthony Akponovoh, Members of the board, Mrs. Philomena Ededdey and Mrs Lina Osuya as well as the Delta State UBEC Coordinator, Mrs Sharon Dafiluelo, amongst other stakeholders
