Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral AZ Gambo commended the Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN) for its giant strides within the short period of their existence during their 4th matriculation ceremony.
The Chief of Staff who was represented by the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Navy Holdings Limited, Rear Admiral SS Lassa at the ceremony noted despite the uncertainties and instabilities in the education system in Nigeria he is happy with the consistent and smooth academic activities of the institution with great passion for excellence in education.
Rear Admiral Lassa enjoined the students to work hard to give their best to be worthy ambassadors of the institution in line with the spirit of diligence, dedication and excellence. Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN) owned by the Nigerian Navy located in Ibusa, Delta State organises its 4th matriculation ceremony and unveiled remarkable achievements of the university.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Omojo Omaji who declared the program open revealed ADUN is owned by the Nigeria Navy through its Navy Holdings Limited is destined for greatness saying that the objective of the University is to expand frontiers of knowledge in various unique specialization so as to use university education as a tool towards development and enhancement of human wellbeing.
Prof. Onaji disclosed that 156 students matriculated and that the school has over 500 students with over 200 staff as at today with immense passion for excellence in education by distinguishing itself from the conventional university through its uniqueness in the courses it offers.
Among other achievements mentioned by Prof. Omaji is the Nigeria University Commission (NUC) granting full operational license to the institution with 12 unique programs approved for them in 2022.
He also thanked the government of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for his immense support thus far and the allocation of land to kick off the maritime campus in Sapele soonest.
The guest lecturer, Prof. Oyedunni Arulogun from the University of Ibadan who delivered the matriculation lecture titled, ‘the invading force of science and technology and the complementary role of entrepreneurial education in the new world’ is more apt.
She mentioned that technology was an innovation that had significantly altered the way consumers, industries and businesses operate saying the mainstream market initially fears to adopt it.
However, she revealed the numbers of benefits to include lower prices, improved quality and increased healthy competition by making products and services better, faster and affordable.
Prof. Arologun said she wished to see a campus where entrepreneurship education is built into every aspect of life noting that there is need for curriculum review for the present students who need to be helped to develop the 21st century skills of critical thinking, collaboration, communication and creative skills.
Again, she said the students need to face their fears, set great goals for themselves, and identify mentors that can help them excel in the business of students’ studentship even as she enjoined lecturers and parents to actively play their roles in the building of a sound education for the children.
