Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has called on the people of Okere Urhobo to bury their differences and work together with the Orosuen for sustainable peace an progress of the kingdom, Warri South Local Governemnt and in indeed the State. He noted that the enthronement of the new Orosuen was a win-win situation for all the people of Okere Urhobo.
Governor Okowa, made the call while presenting the official staff of office to His Royal Majesty, Prof. Paul Oghenero Okumagba, Idama 11, the Orosuen of Okere Urhobo Kingdom, Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State.
Governor Okowa, who was represented by his Deputy, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, charge the people of Okere Urhobo to promote the integrity of the stool by according His Royal Majesty the respect he truly deserves. According to him, the institution of the Orosuen has great significance for the people.
“The Orosuen is one of you and it is a win-win situation for all the people of Okere Urhobo. Government is no doubt aware of some pockets of dissenting voices in the processes leading to today’s ceremony, but, I sincerely urge you to give him your fullest support and cooperation for the sustainable peace and progress of the kingdom”. Gov. Okowa stated.
The governor who advised the royal father to use the added advantage of his high academic background to great advantage of his subjects, charge him to discharge all his responsibilities by being fair and just.
“Your Royal Majesty, you are the father of all your subjects, so you should be fair to all and sundry. As the custodian of the tradition of your people, it is important that you uphold the sanctity of their custom. I sincerely appeal to you to imbibe the democratic virtues of dialogue and consultation in all your dealings with the people, so as to carry them along”. He stated.
Governor Okowa, who congratulated His Royal Majesty, Prof. Paul Okumagba, Idama 11, on his appointment and recognition as the Orosuen of Okere Urhobo, noted that, Okere Urhobo kingdom is in the heartland of the city of Warri and is well known for its commercial activities.
He used the ocassion to call on sons and daughters of Okere Urhobo to take advantage of the various programmes and policies of government to improve and add value to their business capacities. He also assured the people that, their request will be channeled to the appropriate agencies of government for necessary attention.
The Chairman, Warri South Local Government, Dr. Micheal Tidi represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Ann Iniovosa, urge the people of Okere Urhobo to work in unity and speak with one voice to bring development to the land.
Earlier, in an address presented on behalf of the entire people of Okere Urhobo Kingdom, Chief Wilson Eboh, the Otota (Traditional Prime Minister), assured the governor that the reign of their royal father will be peaceful and will bring the needed development to the people. He added that, His Royal Majesty is very prepared to live in peace with all his neighbours.
Chief Eboh, appealed to the governor to consider the construction of Ejemudaro road where the Orosuen’s palace is situated, Apala road linking Giwa-Amu, as well as other roads in the kingdom for even development.
