The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, OON, has officially renamed the well-known Bonsac satellite town in Asaba to Ajaji Layout, with immediate effect.
Announcing the change during a familiarization visit to the former Bonsac and Oduke areas of his kingdom, the Asagba stated that the development would be formally communicated to the Oshimili South Local Government for necessary actions.
In addition, Asagba Prof. Azinge appointed Ogbueshi Dada Okolo as the Palace Liaison Officer for Ajaji Layout and Ogbueshi Adim Onochie as his counterpart for Oduke.
He directed Ogbueshi Okolo to ensure that signposts reflecting the new name were installed at all entry points within one week. However, he clarified that all existing documents bearing the name “Bonsac” would remain valid.
The monarch urged residents of Ajaji Layout and Oduke to be law-abiding, uphold the culture and traditions of the land, remain loyal to constituted authorities, and support the government.
In an interview with newsmen, Comrade Ifeanyi Francis Ifeanyi, Secretary of the ceremony Planning Committee of the renamed Bonsac settlement, expressed gratitude to the Asagba for his visit—the first of its kind. He praised the monarch as the ideal leader for Asaba at this moment in history and appealed for his intervention in attracting much-needed development to the area.
Lamenting the challenges faced by the area, including a lack of social amenities and the absence of a police post, Francis Ifeanyi Francis appealed to relevant authorities to facilitate development in the satellite towns.
The Asagba of Asaba was accompanied by the Director-General of Asaba Capital Territory, Ogbueshi Patrick Ukah, Member representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, Hon. Ngozi Okoli.
