In 2003, Atiku was very popular among the Governors and the NASS members, so much that they pledged their loyalty to him instead of Obasanjo. Obasanjo’s second term was becoming a mirage until he begged Atiku (not while standing) to appeal to the governors. The two agreed on some high level public assets sharing as compensation. Atiku spoke to the governors but the governors were skeptical knowing that there would be repercussions against them, however, having personally settled with the juicy agreement, he assured them not to worry.
After the election, OBJ dealt with those governors, some of them lost their seats, some went to prison and some went to meet their creator! Atiku moved on selfishly with his enormous wealth from the agreement. In fact, he abandoned these Governors in the PDP and moved to AC to run for election, of course, he lost! After pledging loyalty to the AC, Tinubu and Akande, Atiku again returned to the PDP immediately after the death of Yar’adua thinking that he would defeat GEJ a mere southerner with the big numbers from the northern delegates, again, he lost the PDP ticket!
By 2015, everyone believed that it is now the turn of the north since GEJ from the south had used Yar’adua’s term but it was obvious PDP was going to give its ticket to GEJ, so Atiku joined other northern governors to walk out on GEJ at Eagle Square to protest this. And Atiku went back to Tinubu, joined the APC. Unfortunately for him as usual, Atiku lost the ticket to the popular Muhammed Buhari. Atiku came a distant third! Buhari won the 2015 election because the power must shift for balance, trust, justice, peace and equity!
By 2019, Atiku had rushed back to the PDP to claim the ticket. PDP at this time had agreed with Nigerians that power must stay in the north till 2023! Unfortunately again for Atiku, Buhari defeated him in the general election! This made Buhari utilized the entire 8 years of the North and power must now go to the South for 8 years. Atiku disagreed, he believes the only definition of the north is Atiku and until Atiku is president, the north hasn’t ruled Nigeria since 1960!
At the 2022 PDP Primaries, the delegates came to elect a southerner so as to avoid their 2015 error but Atiku suddenly called another meeting while the convention was on. This meeting was strictly to appeal to the north not to allow the south have the power! He succeeded in selling the tribalism for his selfish reason and snatched the ticket from a prominent southerner!!!!!
Atiku faced Tinubu a southerner in the 2023 election. While talking at Arewa House in Kaduna, Atiku said on a live TV that northerners must not vote for a southerner and that the best for the north is to elect him a northerner. This clearly defines Atiku’s politics. Politics of selfishness and incompetence, politics of corruption and division, politics of bitterness and hate!
Unfortunately again and as usual for Atiku, Tinubu defeated him despite all his crafty political bitterness of division!
Today, PDP Governors have abandoned him. The PDP had left him! He is only wallowing in a face saving delusional pride, romancing bitter politicians and appointment bandits across the country, seeing evil, speaking evil!
What a way to end a failed political career!
