In a bid to curb indiscriminate waste disposal and ensure a cleaner environment, the Delta State Waste Management Board, the Ministry of Environment, the Beautification Agency, and the Oshimili South Local Government Council have partnered with the Asagba of Asaba, HRM Obi Professor Epiphany Azinge (SAN).
The collaboration aims to enforce environmental and sanitation laws, maintain the free flow of drainage systems, and promote responsible waste disposal across Asaba.
During a visit to the Asagba’s palace, the Chairman of the Waste Management Board, Hon. Matthew Mofe Edema, reaffirmed the board’s commitment to tackling waste-related challenges in the city. Accompanied by North Senatorial Board Member Cosmas Igbenije, Hon. Edema emphasized the need for effective waste management and assured that the Private Sector Participants (PSPs) involved in waste collection would be strictly monitored. He warned that any PSP failing to meet standards would have their license revoked.
The meeting also had in attendance the Commissioner for Environment, Jamani Ejiro, Oshimili South Council Chairman, Obi Kelvin Ezenyili, and the Executive Assistant on Beautification, Chief Okpomo.
With this strategic alliance, stakeholders expressed optimism that the enforcement of sanitation laws and proper waste disposal practices will significantly improve the cleanliness and environmental health of Asaba.
