The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu has charged Broadcast Media houses in Delta to remain fresh and creative in their broadcast program content so as to enjoy consistent patronage and relevance.
The Commissioner gave the charge on Friday when he received the planning committee of the proposed Delta Broadcast Media Conference 2025 in his office at the Prof Chike Edozien Secretariat, Asaba.
The convener of the conference, Mr. Rukky Onoro stated that the conference is themed, ‘Broadcast Media: Unlocking Delta ‘s Possibilities’ and would have ace broadcasters Rufai Oseni, Maupe Ogun Yusuf and Agatha Amata as Guest Speakers.
According to the Commissioner, Broadcast Media should not only report what the government said, rather they should create content that would attract a wider audience to their station.
To this end, he advised Broadcast Media to embark on a careful investigation on what is happening in the society and report them appropriately.
He stressed that they should learn to do things differently through thorough engagement of the right staff and do self-examination of progress and challenges in a bid to make amends.
Also, he appreciated the broadcasters for synergizing their energy towards the growth of the Broadcast Media in the state.
Earlier, Mr. Onoro stated that the conference was aimed to unlock the potential of media as a tool for development, to bridge the gap between Delta’s promise and its global perception and to equip participants with the skills, insights, and tools needed to reposition Delta State as a beacon of progress and innovation among others.
He added that journalists and broadcasters, media executives and managers, government officials and policymakers are the target audiences of the conference.
Other participants mentioned were corporate stakeholders and investors, development partners and NGOs, academics and media trainers, local entrepreneur and community leaders, the general public and media enthusiasts.
Onoro concluded by listing the expected outcomes of the conference to include enhanced state branding, media strategy development, strengthened stakeholder collaboration and capacity building for broadcasters.
He also mentioned policy recommendations, investment and tourism boost, community engagement and pride and sustainability of the Delta dream narrative.
The Commissioner received the planning committee in company of some directors and staff of the ministry as he assured the committee of all possible support towards the success of the conference.
