Youths in the Niger Delta region have been commended for the relative peace in the creeks at the moment.
The commendation was made by the Chief Press Secretary ( CPS) to Delta State Governor, Comrade Charlse Ehiedu Aniagwu, during an interactive session with the leadership of the Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (OMPAN) Delta State Chapter on Monday, 22 October, 2018, when the group paid him a courtesy call.
Comrade Aniagwu noted that the restored stability in the creeks was one of the reasons for steady revenue inflow to Government coffers.
While imploring the Niger Delta youths to maintain the existing peace, Aniagwu disclosed that through the team of the State Advocacy Committee For Protection Of Oil Facilities / Installation, the State Government convened strategic communities summit to offer relevant stakeholders the opportunity to chart a roadmap for diffusing the then simmering tension.
According to him, the state government as part of the strategies to restore peace and stability, ensured the prompt release of funds for infrastructural development in the communities in order to stimulate economic activities and job creation thereby engaging the youths in the tributaries.
The CPS disclosed that, the Delta State government patronizes local contractors as part of measures to encourage the growth of local companies, and to create avenues for engaging the unemployed persons.
He noted that, local contractors will engage Deltans more in their employment and by so doing, the money paid to them will circulates around the State for more economic and social activities.
While advising the Federal and other State government to patronize local contractors but with strict supervision, Aniagwu noted that with time, through government patronage, the local road contractors will grow like other big multi national road contractors.
The CPS advised OMPAN to unite, put away their ego and collapse their different mediums into a formidable one that will be profitable to all members instead of the many toothless mediums.
