Commissioner for Information in Delta State, Mr. Charles Ehiedu Aniagwu, has said that efforts would be geared towards the completion of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Press Centre in Asaba, the state capital, within the next six months.
The Commissioner gave the assurance when the chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, led his Exco in an unscheduled visit to the office of the commissioner, after the maiden exco meeting of the Comrade Ikeogwu’s second term in office as the chairman of the union in Asaba.
He said that proper evaluation of what was needed to complete the centre should be forwarded to his office to enable him brief the state government adequately on the issue, adding that a befitting press centre of the union in the state was over due.
Responding, Comrade Ikeogwu thanked the commissioner for receiving his exco on short notice, adding that he was in the office of the commissioner to solicit his support for the council to actualise the set goals of the union in the state, adding that the visit became very urgent, considering the pivotal role the commissioner played in restoring peace to the union in the state and the need for the commissioner to consolidate on strengthening the position of the union in the state and beyond.
Comrade Ikeogwu promised to administer the council in an open door policy, calling on all members of the union in the state and beyond to support his aspirations in not only lifting their welfare to a commendable level, but making the NUJ an instrument of actualising the Stronger Delta vision of the state government under the watch of Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa as the Governor of the state.
