The Chairman of Bomadi Local Goernment Council, Hon. William Angadi has told the over 200 Teaching and Non-Teaching staff recently recruited by the Local Government Council that their recruitment was in pursuit of the Council’s quest to raise the standard of education in the area.
Hon. Angadi who charged the newly recruited Teachers and non-Teaching staff to reciprocate the Council’s gesture by being professional, called on them to contribute their quota towards providing brilliant career opportunities for school children in the riverine community.
The Council Chairman stated this at the opening ceremony of a 3-day Refresher Course organized by the Bomadi Local Government Council in collaboration with the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for newly employed 140 Teachers and 64 non-Teaching staff at Bomadi Townhall on Monday.
Represented by the Secretary of the Council, Mr. Labo Clifford, the Bomadi Council Chairman stressed the significance of the refresher course, stating that it was designed and packaged to get the newly recruited teachers acquainted with the teaching profession.
Angadi who expressed confidence and optimism that the premium the local government had placed on primary education by carrying out the recruitment exercise, would promote the quality of education in the area.
He reminded the newly engaged teachers of their responsibility of bringing about positive change in the life of pupils under their care by developing the thrill of learning in them, adding that they were responsible for their guidance.
Lamenting the retrogression and decay in the nation’s educational system which according to the Council boss had been compounded by the twin monster of corruption and insecurity, noted that it was their obligation to protect and preserve the quality of education in the country.
“The fallen standard of education of education in our country has become a challenge and these recurrent challenges have found expression in our homes, churches and educational institutions in the form of cultism, examination malpractice/professional misconduct, kidnapping, yahoo and bribery to mention but a few” Angadi lamented.
Declaring the refresher course opened, the Executive Chairman, State Universal Education Board, Hon. Sunny Ogwu expressed hope that the training programme would equip the newly recruited officers with the requisite information and support necessary in assisting them to adapt to a new workplace culture.
The SUBEB boss who was represented by a member of the Board, Mr. Paul Kurugbe while congratulating the 204 successful employees on their recruitment into the Unified Teaching Service, reiterated that the refresher course would help them to understand pupils, classes and curriculum.
He expressed his firm belief that the exercise would provide the newly recruited teachers with the necessary information about the systems and processes that guide the workplace, as well as school norms which he said were integral for teachers to settle in and feel confident to deliver their best.
“You are therefore called upon to do your best and be that one teacher your pupils would always appreciate after years of leaving primary school. Remember that education is power, hence, you are expected to render quality service to empower our children for their future” Ogwu said.
Hon Ogwu who used the opportunity to congratulate the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori on his recent swearing-in as the 5th Governor of the State, assured people of the are of the Governor’s commitment to do MORE for Deltans and solicited for their cooperation and support for the Sheriff administration.
