The Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Samuel Mariere, has urged schools participating in the Agricultural Education Training Programme (AETP) to strictly adhere to the programme’s implementation guidelines to ensure its success across the state.
Mariere made this call on Tuesday at the SUBEB headquarters in Asaba while declaring open a one-day sensitization exercise for stakeholders in public primary and junior secondary schools under the 2023 AETP.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Sir Byron Unini, the SUBEB Chairman described the AETP as a practical and transformative initiative aimed at bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical agricultural skills in schools. He highlighted the programme’s objective to equip learners with entrepreneurial skills, promote self-employment, and instill a sense of dignity in labor.
Hon. Mariere disclosed that 40 schools, comprising both primary and junior secondary schools, are participating in this year’s programme. He emphasized the importance of learner-centered practices, advising that students be actively involved in all processes to ensure they gain hands-on experience and understanding of agricultural practices.
