Activist Rex Anighoro the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Civic Engagement and Civil has hailed His Excellency, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, for being a climate action champion, for his exceptional efforts at mitigating Climate Change crises. He stated that Governor Okowa remains a global thinker and actor with monumental impact locally, and that his uncommon performance as Governor of Delta State makes him worthy of higher office and global acclaim.
Activist Rex Anighoro stated this in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt recently at the United Nations Conference Of the Parties 27th Edition (UN COP27) event organised by Nurses Across the Borders International, a Civil Society Organisation, under the leadership Pastor Peters Omorogbon, where His Excellency, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa delivered a Keynote Address on the Paper titled: “ The Role of Government in Building Resilient Communities and Climate Resilient Health System in the Niger Delta, in the Wake of the Recent Flooding in Nigeria”.
Activist Rex Anighoro who is also the Spokesperson of the Delta Political Vanguard (DPV), a frontline and vibrant political pressure group, stated that the Delta State Government’s move in setting up of twelve camps with almost 40,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) resident within them at the wake of recent flooding in Nigeria was commendable. Activist Anighoro also noted with admiration that the way in which political office holders under Governor Okowa’s leadership rallied around the flood victims with provisions, showing empathy and solidarity was such as has never been witnessed in the annals of Delta State.
He further commended Governor Okowa’s proactive constitution of the 2022 Flood Disaster Management Committee, ensuring early sensitization of traditional rulers, community leadership and other stakeholders which made many residents to respond earlier by moving away from the low planes, as well as the Ministry of Environment and the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) decisive actions in opening up the canals and desilting drainages leading to the Niger River all of which were worthy of notable mention. Activist Anighoro noted that with these, a proactive action template has been established to deal with further uncertainties.
Activist Rex Emojite Anighoro who engaged with several Civil Society Actors for the good of Delta State at the United Nations Conference further hailed Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa for his continuous robust relationship with the Civil Society even at a global scale, stating that the Governor remains the undisputed Civil Society’s most friendly Governor in Nigeria.
” At a time many Governors and political leaders in Nigeria are focusing on the next elections and are largely unconcerned about our planet and it’s people, Governor Okowa has shown that he is different from the pack by raising the standards to engage globally for the good of the citizens of Delta and Nigeria, who to him should never be second class but global citizens. For Governor Okowa, all politics is local, yet local impact must be global, passing the test of global best practices which is excellence at its peak.” Activist Rex Emojite Anighoro concluded.
Activist Rex Emojite Anighoro thanked the Secretary to the Delta State Government, Hon. Patrick Ukah, the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Delta State Government Dr. Barry Pere Gbe, the Commissioner for Environment Delta State Government, Hon.Godspower Asiuhwu, the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Environment Dr. Mininim Ibiere Oseji and Deacon Okezi Odugala of the Delta State Procurement Council for their outstanding efforts in ensuring that Delta State Government participated at the United Nations COP27 distinguishing the State amongst others at the global stage.
