As part of the activities scheduled to mark the 70th anniversary of the National Association of Seadogs (NAS), many individuals in Ugbodu in Aniocha North, Delta state on Friday profited from free medical outreach/ clinical effort supported by the Vito Corsica Deck of the Pyrates Confraternity.
Speaking to journalists at the Ugbodu Community Primary Health Care Center, the Capoon of the Vito Corsica Deck of NAS, Engr. Emeka Okolo, said the event offered free medical services to so many people in need of medical care.
He said though, there is the quarterly community service program where the Association offers free health Care services through the NAS Free Medical Mission with the aim to reach a significant population of indigent Nigerians needing medical care, the Deck’s free healthcare services at Ugbodu was to celebrate the 70 years anniversary of the Pyrates existence and service to humanity tagged weekend of the confrat’s service to humanity.
“Vito Corsica Deck of the Association which is mainly Delta North is rendering this free health services to commemorate the founding of the Pyrates Confraternity 70 years ago at the then University College Ibadan (UCI) now known as University of Ibadan”. Engr. Okolo stated.
Also speaking, Dr Amaefuna Anieto, the leader of the NAS Medical team at Ugbodu, stated that free healthcare services ranging from Hypertension, Diabetes, Body pains, Ulcer, Infections, Malaria, Fungal infections and General medical care materials were given to men and women, old and young, and eye checkups and glasses were also made available in form of optical care. Dental care, BP checks, medicine, and health counseling were also enjoyed by everyone including the traditional ruler of Ugbodu and chiefs present at the occasion.
In his remarks, the Vito Corsica Deck’s 2nd Mate, Moses Agwere Esq. said the Association chose Ugbodu in Aniocha North because from statistics the people were in need of medical services.
On the choice of medical instead of food items to the community, Agwere noted that NAS opted for health because it’s only when one is well that he or she will think of food, saying that Health is Wealth.
He called on well-meaning Nigerians and organizations to stretch out their hands in helping the needy that many Nigeria communities are in dire need of health services that government alone cannot provide for all.
Thanking the members of the National Association of Seadogs for their kind gesture towards their community, the Matron of Ugbodu Primary Health Care Center, Mrs Ike Mercy, said apart from medical service rendered, the drugs given were of high quality and enough to serve the health center for long.
This medium gathered that individuals who cannot bear the cost of much-required surgical procedures were likewise recipients of the effort provided by the Pyrates Confraternity.
Surgeons, nurses, and medical professionals were on hand to provide free services to anyone who needed them. Beneficiaries were allowed to sample the future of healthcare, which is one of the main tenets of NAS Humanitarian services.
