The Political Trailblazer of Urhobo Nation, Okakuro John Obukohwo Nani (JON), was on Sunday 6, February, 2022, at the palace of the Ovie (king) of IDJERHE KINGDOM, to officially notify him, the Chiefs and the People of his Kingdom of his intention to vie for the position of the Senate, Delta Central.
After series of endorsements by various groups across Delta Central, Urhobo bodies in overseas, and Delta State in general, asking the Aghwemutuwevwi to contest for the position due to his enormous contributions towards the growth and development of Urhobo Nation and her People, Barr Nani has officially accepted to yield to the voice of his People. “The voices of the People are the Voice of God.”
HRM Monday Obukohwo Whiskey, Udurhie 1, and his Chiefs were in a joyous mood hearing that their Son is vying for the Red Chamber position.
The Ovie gave his advice to the Aspirant and also used the occasion to pour royal Blessings on him.
John Obukohwo Nani who still holds the record as the longest serving PRO Delta State PDP, had been a head and member to various boards in the State. He was also a member Delta State House of Assembly representing Ethiope West State Constituency (2011-2014) before becoming a member of the State executive Council as a Commissioner for Environment (2015-2019). After the 2019 general elections and successful swearing-in of the Executive Governor of Delta State, Governor Ifeanyi A. Okowa, JON as a prudent manager of Finance and resources, the governor appointed him as the Executive Director, Finance and Administration in the board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, ED. F&A DESOPADEC, the position he still occupies till date.
It should be recalled that, during his time as a member of the DTHA, he was elected as the best Nigerian legislator due to his contribution and various meaningful bills sponsored by him and subsequently assented by the then Governor. The much talked about restoration of the “Ethiope West State Constituency 1” recently approved by the Nigerian Senate is one of the many legacy footprints of Hon John Nani when he was a member of the State assembly.
As a Commissioner for environment, he was named Workaholic Commissioner by the Governor and was later echoed by the Nigerian Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo during his visit to the State to assess the level of environmental impacts of the State government. That was due to his (JON) laudable initiatives in the ministry, and working tirelessly to making sure his ministry contributed its quota maximally to the #SMARTAGENDA, #STRONGERDELTA and #PROPSERITY4ALLDELTANS which are the initiative of the governor.
“JON is confidently determined to consolidate and amplify the voice of the Urhobo Nation at the Nigerian Senate; ushering in a profound legislative and infrastructural advancement in Delta Central Senatorial District.”
