Junior Chamber International JCI, a non governmental organization has called on all stakeholders in the electoral process to ensure that the 2023 general election is credible, free and fair.
The President,Junior Chamber International, Mr Uti Inyang who stated this during an interview after it’s January General Assembly in Asaba said all hands must be on the deck to ensure that the 2023 general election was violent free.
Mr Inyang said the body had concluded plans to embark on a road walk on major roads and streets of Asaba to sensitive the public and all stakeholders on the need for a violent free general election.
He said any form of electoral violence could mar the outcome of the elections and called on youths who are mostly used as political thugs to cause mayhem on election day to desist form such act and rather play active roles to ensure the success of the polls.
The JCI Asaba Chapter President noted that the 2023 general election was very important to the nation’s growth and development hence the need for all stakeholders to work assiduously for it’s success.
He called on eligible voters who are yet to collect their permanent voter cards to do so despite the challenges being encountered at the collection centres and decried the high number of uncollected PVC’S.
Mr Inyang said Junior Chamber International was a non partisan group and had no political party or candidate it is supporting but was interested in the political and economic growth of the country.
He advised voters to obey all rules and regulations guiding the 2023 general elections and come out enmasse to vote for candidates of their choice with any form of coercion,shun voter apathy and vote buying.
Mr Inyang disclosed that Asaba Chapter if Junior Chamber International would be hosting the Officers Training School OTS for 2023 for the South South South and South East comprising of over twenty five local organizations and collegiate adding that JCI was developing leaders for a changing world.
The JCI Asaba Chapter President noted that the group was made up of young persons adding that the OTS which would hold in Asaba from the 20th to 22nd of January would afford members the opportunity to interact,share ideas and training geared towards a better society.
He highlighted some programmes to be embarked upon the Asaba Chapter such as mental health awareness and sporting events among others.
For his part,the Alumni Chairman of Junior Chamber International,Mr Karo Ovemeso said the training from JCI had helped in shaping the lives of members in their chosen field of human endeavour.
He urged youths to venture into productive activities and shun all forms of illegal migration as the risk involved was life threatening and recalled his days when he joined the organization.
Mr Ovemeso who is the the Director ,State Emergency Management Agency SEMA stressed the need for more advocacy,sensitisation and awareness on the dangers of illegal migration.
The General Assembly fractured the presentation of the stewardship report of the immediate past President,Patience Oyibocha and the inauguration of the board members who will serve with the elected executive to pilot the affair of the body for the next one year .
