As aspirants intensify efforts in their consultation visits, one of the leading PDP aspirants for the 2023 Governorship election, Olorogun David Edevbie, has visited the Anioma Congress.
The event held at the Palace of the Asagba of Asaba, Obi Professor Chike Edozien.
Addressing the Anioma Congress, comprising the political, business and traditional class, Olorogun David Edevbie said Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had done well, but Delta state is still a work in progress, hence the need to elect innovative, experienced and viable leaders to build on the legacies.
Olorogun Edevbie said in modernizing the state, his administration would focus his development strategy on job and wealth creation, energy, security, agriculture, social infrastructure and public sector reform, if elected.
He stressed the need to change the structure of governance by ensuring inclusiveness, and intimated the Congress of his plan to ensure that women make up 35% of his cabinet and youths 25 percent, while issues facing the elderly, especially that of unpaid pensions in the public service would be addressed.
The Governorship aspirant said having worked in senior positions in the private sector locally and internationally, and served in different capacities in the Government of the state and country, he was conversant with the prospects and challenges facing the state.
Olorogun Edevbie noted that the Traditional Institution remained a critical part of Government as traditional Rulers were closest to the people, hence his determination to incorporate the traditional Institution in the policy of his administration, especially the Security architecture.
Responding, the Asagba of Asaba, Professor Chike Edozien said Nigeria is a country made up of various ethnic groups and Delta state is not exempted, adding that the political arrangement of Zoning, has helped to maintain peace in the state.
He also pointed out the need for governments to accord the traditional institutions the respect they deserved as custodians of culture.
The highlight of the event was the offering of prayers by the traditional rulers for Edevbie’s success in his bid and for his health and safety, led by the Asagba of Asaba.
it had in attendance traditional rulers from various communities and top Anioma professional, business and political leaders, including the former Deputy Governor of the state, Chief Benjamin Elue, Alanza Uche Ugboma, and the Obi of Abavo, Uche Irenuma the second.
