The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Delta State Directorate has embarked on a vigorous campaign exercise for increased enrollment for the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP) at Abgeje Primary School in Ugbwangue, Warri North Local Government Area.
The team which was led by the Chief Orientation and Mobilization Officer (COMO) of NOA in Warri South, Comrade Julie Omasan, stressed that the programme was meant to promote more awareness about the programme and to also get feed back on how well the programme was impacting in the area.
The programme which is specifically arranged by the Federal Government, is targeted at pupils within primary 1-3.
The campaign further recognises children within this level as catchment group and encourages head teachers and teachers in public primary schools to increase the enrollment of out-of-school pupils, and also encourage parents to ensure that their wards take advantage of the programme.
The Headteacher of the school, however, complained that out of the two cooks assigned to Abgeje Primary School, only one was usually present.
The cook on her part, explained the reason for the absence of her colleague to include inadequate funding.
She explained that the fund provided for feeding was inadequate for two cooks.
She said she had to manage the available fund in ensuring that the beneficiaries had something to eat.
